My name is Deante’ Moore and I am an Akimel O’odham and Black Artist. I am an enrolled member of the Gila River Indian Community in Arizona. I am 25 years old and was born in Oklahoma but raised in Pflugerville,Tx. I am currently a Graduate Student at the University of North Texas pursuing my degree in Clinical Mental Health. I hope to serve the Native community and hope of bringing the indigenous knowledge of wellness into my therapeutic practice through expressive arts and through a holistic lens. I am the Vice President of the Native American Student Association at UNT and I am an Ambassador for the American Indian Heritage Day in Texas. I won the online MMIW2GS art competition 2020 for American Indian Heritage Day in Texas and I designed TCU 5th annual Indigenous Peoples Day Celebration 2021 that centered on MMIW. I’ve created the logo design for the 5 time Native American Music Award-winning band “Blackbird”. My artwork has also been showcased in the Breaking the Silence Art exhibition for NSU in April 2021. I also received the honorable mention award in the 50th annual Trail of Tears Art show in 2021 and was featured in 2022. I was chosen as the cover artist for Native Vote 2022: Democracy is Indigenous Campaign and for the 2nd annual MMIP Oklahoma Conference. I have created art since I learned how to write. However, I started digital art in 2020 and have broadened my artistic experience in this new medium. I hope that this artwork brings healing, comfort, guidance, and justice to the communities and individuals that it will serve.
